#THEMTOO is a playful look at the lives of Canadian women of the 50's, 60's and 70's. The concept came about when several discarded Edith Adams Cottage recipe clipping books fell into the artist's lap. The material was too wonderful to ignore and too rich not to play with, to provoke and amuse. The idea of a woman's place being in the home is explored via vintage media such as clippings and women's magazines. The concept of the sunny housewife who only needed fresh lipstick and her vacuum cleaner to achieve fulfillment is worked onto colourful surfaces, poking fun at outdated standards that a then-new aggressive advertising age deemed essential for a woman's happy life.
#THEMTOO will be on public display February 2021 at The Gallery at The Cultch (online only, due to Covid-19), alongside works by Marliese Eilers and Valerie Arntzen). Show link and details to come soon...
