THE PEEKABOO PRINCIPLE is an ongoing series that originated out of my morning drawing practice. I love to wake up between 5-6 a.m. and start playing around with drawing tools between sips of coffee. I also have developed a love of drawing vintage wallpaper. The colours and shapes very much appeal to me, so one day I decided to marry the appeal of wallpaper and portraiture while retaining a bit of mystery of the subject. And along came Judith, the first in the series. The concept of Less is More, or the Peekaboo Principle, comes via V.S. Ramachadran, a professor of neuroscience and psychology who looked into the brains of people and came to the conclusion that things are better when they're less visible, and curiosity is more arousing than when you get a direct message. I enjoy almost keeping the subjects anonymous, although they are all people in my life and the titles reveal who they are, and finding the right vintage wallpaper to suit how I view them. The Peekaboo Principle is an ongoing series, so please check back for more work to come...
